Smokey Wilhelme
31 March 1989 to 4 April 2003
On a quiet spring evening our precious Smokey slipped away. She was small
with colors of black and tan, no grey on her. The walk of a younger dog,
hard to believe she had just turned fourteen.
Close my eyes: I remember when you came to our home at one year old. I
promised Daddy "two weeks and Ill find her a home". I did with us, two
weeks that lasted 13 years.
Close my eyes: so many memories rush in, those sweet eyes full of love for
our family. No one ever told you that you couldnt protect us from even the
biggest of adversaries. You were 25 pounds of sheer energy. A force to be
reckoned with!
Close my eyes: Barking whenever your men left the room. You didnt ever like
Daddy or Frederick to leave even for a minute. You and Frederick grew up
together. He was 9 years old when you came. I think you were always more
his baby. You played with him, slept with him, watched over him and loved
him always.
Close my eyes: Smokey in my kitchen checking for treats. Frederick holding
his Sweet Pea, telling her first boyhood stories, later manhood dreams.
Daddy coming home, a joyful time. My shadow upstairs. How we miss you.
Close my eyes: Walk a little slower, eyes a little more tired but that love
still there.
Close my eyes: Youve slipped away.
Smokey, in our hearts forever.
