Rusty
Rusty was a big beautiful Irish Setter. He just showed up in our back yard one day. We put ads in the paper but no one claimed him. He didn't bark at all for a long time so we figured that someone had had him in an apartment and he just got too big for them. He was fully trained to hand signals, and was a very well behaved dog.
Rusty loved playing with the kids, In the winter of 1977 when we had the big blizzard, Rusty would chase snowballs right into a big drift - stuck his head right in where the snowball had gone in. He like the water and was extatic when we took him camping at the lake with us. He loved that water and would chase sticks all day if we would throw them for him. He would also chase rocks into the water - wherever the rock went down, Rusty would dive under the water and bring back a rock. We never knew if it was the same rock we threw, but Rusty was convinced that it was.
Rusty will always hold a special place in our hearts. He was a wonderful friend.
