Buck
1987-2000
Rottweiler
Buck came into our lives when he was 8 weeks old. I put him in a laundry
basket beside my bed and played momma all night the first night. He cried all
night for his momma but eventually adapted to us. The boys were young and
played with him but he always seemed to be depressed until my husband came
home off the road. Buck was my husbands dog mostly.
The boys and I pulled him
through the Parvo Virus when he was 10 weeks old taking turns every 30
minutes feeding him medicine from a syringe. We pawned some valuables to pay
for the vet and the medicine but came to find that Buck was the most valuable
of our possessions.
He was always there for us if we needed someone to talk
to. We would go to him and he would perk up his ears just like he was ready
to listen. He always loved attention from the boys or my husband. Our family
was most important to him and he was most important to us. We miss him dearly
and always will. He was an excellent guard dog, too. he never let anyone
around if he didn't know them. He also had this thing about sirens. He would
howl when he heard them then all the neighbors dogs would join in and it
sounded like a chorus. It was funny to hear and we miss that every day.
I can
still look out the window into the back yard and expect to see him looking
back at me or pacing back and forth wanting us to come play with him.
We
will always love you, Buck. Save a place for us. Our Corgi, Keebler, misses
him, too. She was missing one day and we found her laying on his grave
whimpering as if she knew he was there. We buried him in the back yard so he
could be near us.
Shine bright my lovely, lovely star. I will find you no
matter where you are.
