Gretchen
Gretchen was a very special Father's Day gift for my husband, from my
daughters and I, 13 years ago. We all remember a beautiful little
Weimaraner puppy, sitting on a chair ...hiding beneath the table
cloth... waiting to surprise her new "Daddy" when he came into the
kitchen. She quickly became much more than just Daddy's dog. She was
definitely my girl too and was special in so many ways She was one of
the family, super smart with a great personality all her own.
Gretchen was a clown. She greeted everyone by shaking one paw, then
another whether they wanted her paws or not. Her bag of tricks also
included her "dead dog" stunts and "speaking". She used to entertain us
daily with her routine of carrying stuffed toys - her "babies" - taking
them for endless walks around a table, around a room or around the
house. She also carried assorted rugs and blankets everywhere. She was
such a ham! She loved getting dressed up and would pose just as long as
there was a camera around.
Gretchen was totally deaf for the last year or so of her life. She
also had other health problems associated with aging, but she had a
certain sparkle in her eyes, a dignity, and a spirit that kept her
going. It was obvious in her last few days though that she was very ill.
Her pain is gone now, but losing her is still so hard. She will always
be my sweet, lovable, beautiful girl.
We miss you, Gretchen, and will always love you.
