Over the years you have served as my constant companion
You've stood fast at my side my entire adult life
We've hiked rugged canyons and traversed steep mountainsides
We've swam backwoods rivers and fished pristine lakes
Your undying loyalty is a gift I knew from the start
Your fierce heart protected me from man and beast
At times of strife, you were there to cast a knowing glance
A loving nudge; an utterance whose meaning only we knew
You have been my companion, protector and friend.
As time passed, the ravages of age have taken its toll
Now, it is my turn to serve as your guardian
I can not let you suffer
I will not reward your love with callousness
I will set you free from the bounds of this earth

It was Casey that helped "train" Shelby when Shelby was a pup. Thus, since Shelby crossed the bridge first, it would be fitting if she escorted Casey the rest of the way.
