Gracie was our families dog and was probably one of the best dogs we
could have. She was special because no matter what happened, she always
wagged her tail and she never ever thought a mean thought.
When we bought the half-bred Chow/Collie and her twin sister Georgie,
they were just little fluff balls prancing around the house and pooping
wherever they went. We went on holiday and when we saw the dogs again they
had grown so big that we didn't think they were the same dogs.
These dogs have been amazing globe-trotters travelling with us to Hong
Kong, New York, Stonington, Beijing, Moscow, Belgium and fittingly, the
last place that Gracie lived was her hometown, Hong Kong.
When we had been here for two years, Gracie suffered from a stroke. Her
eyes were twitching and she wouldn't eat. We took her to the vet and when
he saw that Gracie was still wagging her tail, he said, "This girl still
has some life in her yet," and fixed her up.
Sadly, a year later, Gracie stopped walking and eating. We took her to
a hospital and they fed her and took x-rays. The vet found a lump in her
stomach and there was an operation to take it out. Sadly, these lumps had
spread everywhere and he put her to sleep on November 26, 1998 on
thanksgiving.
We all miss Gracie so much. I can remember very clearly her wagging her
tail, making silly noises, licking my face.
A poem for Gracie:
She lived and when she lost her spirit, died
It was so hard that we all cried
But now she's gone to DogStar
Where there are dogs to play with and food galore.
Gracie, we love you and miss you and we'll she you when we go up to heaven!!
