Freddy

A Tribute To Freddy For My Mom and Dad

My Dad's dog Freddy, a black lab cross, recently passed away on November 17,1998. He is really taking it hard as she was his bestfriend. My my has been a wonderful support for my Dad. Freddy was almost 13 years old and had numerous operations to get rid of cancer and had to endure wearing the lovely cone around her neck to prevent her from licking her incisions which really interfered with her eating, which she loved doing.About one and a half months ago my Mom and Dad discovered more lumps so she had to have another operation. It was then that my Dad decided there were going to be no more operations because for one she might not survive another one and two she had been through enough. Freddy was tired and breathing her last breath. About a week ago my Dad built her a coffin and told my Mom what he wanted done when Freddy died. I'm sure my Dad's mind wasn't on work but he told my Mom to phone him at work if anything happened.

Well, last night they had let Freddy outside and she walked around the house once then went into the doghouse. Minutes later my Dad came out to look for Freddy and that's when he found her in the doghouse. She had died peacefully. She hadn't been good all day but it was almost as if she had waited for my Dad to come home from work before she went so she could say good-bye. She had wanted to be alone when she went. They then took her out of the doghouse, put her in her coffin that my Dad had built, got her bed and pillow and placed her in. My Dad then got a picture of themselves(her Mom and Dad) and put it on top of her, then he closed the lid.

About half an hour later I got a phone call, it was my Mom. My Dad had told my Mom to phone me and reason was because Freddy had originally been mine. I had gotten her a a birthday present. But she was really always my Dad's dog. My Dad got on the phone and I asked him how he was and he told me how much he was going to miss her (this still bring s tears to my eyes).

The next day both my Mom and Dad worked for over 3 hours trying to dig a grave for Freddy. The ground wasn't frozen, just really dry and hard. Freddy was buried on November 18,1998 just west of the house.

I really wanted to do something special for my Dad because I know he really misses his best friend. I am doing this for you Dad and also my Mom. Freddy was a great dog and also a very loyal friend. I hope this helps you to remember Freddy. Freddy you were one of a kind and you will never be forgotten!!!!
