Daisy

Daisy has just joined us at DogStar. Her picture will be up soon. She is dearly missed.

A few words:

God sent me a special friend after my parents died to help me through the years, cause at age 12, I needed alot of help. Her name was " Daisy ". I found her at our local animal shelter. She was 6 weeks old, no specific breed, no bigger than a light bulb and black as night. Her paw reached out to me through the bars and I knew she was the one. How she became so smart I'll never know, for I too, was busy learning. I guess she studied more than me !

We grew up together. When I learned to drive, she went with me. On my first date, she had to go as a chaperone. When I got married, she was the ring bearer...which was no easy task when the basket was bigger than she was. When my first child was born, she was a little grandmother. By the time the third child came around, she was bald from an allergy, but spry as ever. She watched those babies of mine as though she was a trained police dog.

The years of allergy shots took their toll on her kidneys and body. In reality, I feel like she knew she had taught me all she could in her 17 years. After all,I had grown into a woman myself. In June of last year, our vet said for me to spend the weekend with her and say our goodbyes as the time had come for Daisy to go. Too quickly, Monday came and the horrible drive to the vets office. She lay within my weak arms and looked into my tear streaked face and kissed me one last time before going on her journey to the heavens.

Since then, I have never forgotten her, nor have i failed to rescue any dog. My home is filled with unwanted animals now. Several are at my feet at this moment. But beside me forever and closest in my heart is the soul of a little black angel called Daisy. Her void has never been filled, nor will it, until once again, I touch her soft fur and tell her thanks for raising me. I guess instead of her being my pup, I was hers.

Daisy, loved, remembered, treasured........once again, someday.
